Google Maps’ Street View has a handy function that lets you view older imagery, letting you compare a location for the past few years. This led me to thinking, “Wouldn’t it be great if we could go back much further than the last few years?” Imagine being able to see the exact same spot 25, 50 or even 100 years ago. Whilst it’s highly unlikely we’ll ever get such a service, this inspired me to create a series of “Then and Now” comparisons of Sydney with the assistance of images from the Powerhouse Museum’s collection for the archival imagery and from Google Street View for the modern imagery. Be sure to check back in, as I’ll be continuing to add more then and now comparisons of Sydney to this blog. Without further ado, here is my first “Then and Now” comparison for this blog.
