Sydney has grown extensively in the past decades. Wanting to see this growth, I sought to look for a video showing how Sydney’s spatial footprint has increased over time. However, I was unable to find such a video; instead, I decided to make the video myself. Using satellite imagery, this video shows Sydney’s growth in various areas over the past 30 years, from 1986 to 2016:
The biggest difference can be seen in the areas out in the south-western and north-western fringes of Sydney. However, closer in, various major redevelopment sites are also visible, such as Olympic Park, the expansion of Sydney Airport and Port Botany and Barangaroo in the city centre.
